Queensland radiation licensing, explained
Queensland regulates Class 4 lasers used for cosmetic and medical procedures under the Radiation Safety Act 1999, administered by Queensland Health. Two licences apply: a use licence, held by each person who operates the laser, and a possession licence, held by the business that owns the apparatus. A possession licence requires a radiation safety and protection plan and, importantly, your apparatus and rooms must be certified for compliance by a person accredited under the Act. (Note: standard IPL devices are not currently licensed in Queensland — these requirements apply to Class 4 lasers.)
What laser compliance testing involves
A compliance test confirms that your laser system and treatment room meet Queensland’s radiation safety standards and AS/NZS IEC 60825.1. We assess energy output and calibration, beam path and optics, interlocks, warning signage and controlled-area setup, and the safe operation of the device — then provide documented results for your records and audits.
Accredited compliance certification
Because compliance certification in Queensland must be carried out by a person accredited under the Radiation Safety Act 1999, using an accredited specialist isn’t optional.
